Plein Air Paintings, Demos, & Memories

“En Plein air” is a French term that translates to “painting in the open air”. Though the French Impressionists brought new awareness and excitement, painting on location is a tradition that dates back centuries. There is a certain life force that exists in plein air painting; it is a ‘live performance’ so to speak. A moment in time capturing nature’s many moods without preemptive strikes. The light-charged particles glowing in the atmosphere, the birds and crickets singing, fragrances of fruits and flowers floating in the air, infuse the paintings with a fresh and honest expression.

Italy & France

Paintings, demos, and studies for workshops that I conducted in Italy. The day after my first Italy Workshop in 2019, I delivered my artwork to the Vatican Observatory in Castel Gandolfo. Connecticut

Connecticut is home to Jill. Over the years, she has captured the’ many moods and seasons of her home state and neighboring states. Some are located nearby on her nature trails. Please contact me if you’d be interested in taking plein air painting lessons or workshops.

Monhegan Island, Maine, was first made popular by the Wyeth family and painter friends. Olana, New York, the historic home of painter Frederic Church, is now a designated historic site.
