Music in the Woods - painting of daffodils

Color and Light Landscape One Day Workshop at Silvermine

Color and Light – One Day Workshop – Landscape at Silvermine Art School
May 13, 2023, Saturday 10 AM – 4 PM

Painting on location is a unique and satisfying way to experience and appreciate the natural world. It is a form of mediation where the mind is void of chatter or overthinking.

In this one-day workshop, we will be painting the landscape from direct observation, discovering the play of color and light while taking on the challenge of transcribing multi-dimensions into the two dimensions of the painted canvas. Any medium and level of plein air painting are acceptable.

When painting on location I paint quickly without concern about a finished painting. This frees me up to capture the essence of the painting, not just an impression of the visual, but what it feels like to be there – the wind, rain, lighting, sounds, scents, and emotions. I am intent on committing to memory and capturing the gestures, colors, and light.

Some of these studies stand well on their own and others work well as a reference for studio paintings. In the studio, I can slow down and make more deliberate decisions.
