Come paint the landscape In this Weekend Workshop in the spacious Easton, Connecticut studio of renowned artist Everett Raymond Kinstler. You will be painting in the beautiful natural light of the studio and surroundings with internationally acclaimed artist Jill Harrington Nichols.

We’ll begin with an introductory presentation and demo. Then artists will paint several quick studies/sketches, (outdoors weather permitting) with a limited palette. Learning to simplify the landscape into a dynamic composition while interpreting spatial relationships, color, and value relationships. Work directly from observation or from existing studies and photos. Artists are encouraged to explore, experiment, and interpret the landscape.

Debating because November seems too late to paint the landscape?

Consider this plein air painting by Van Gogh. “Astronomical calculations showed the setting sun would have been visible setting over Weverstraat on November 13 and 14 in 1884, with historic weather records confirming the day’s clear skies would have made it conducive for the artist’s plein air work.”*

Everett Kinstler inherited John Singer Sargent’s wooden palette. Watch the video to learn more.

Sargeant, known for his portraits, painted stunning landscapes too. We’ll be exploring Sargent’s and other artists’ palette colors, as well as light, value, shape, line, and simplifying the composition for a dynamic landscape painting in our two-day workshop.
